Abstract

Worldwide PC shipment volume totaled about 296 million units in 2013, declining 7.5% year-on-year; in 2014, the industry is expected to be fuelled by the replacement demand for commercial models and declining demand for tablets; therefore, although worldwide PC market will continue to decline but the decline rate is estimated at merely around 1.7%. Apart from tablets, overall shipment volume of the Taiwanese ICT industry has been sliding in 2013 compared to 2012; affected by the growing market presence of Korean and Chinese branded vendors in 2014, tablets are expected to be one of few sectors to keep the Taiwanese ICT industry growing positively. Amid the increasing share of low-price and Chinese branded products, the development of Chinese PC supply chain has been rather rapid and Chinese vendors have been able to cut into the supply chain of international brands, thereby affecting Taiwanese suppliers’ share in international branded orders. Furthermore, MIC forecasts that shipment value of the Taiwanese communications industry (including exports of communications components) will reach NT$2.37 trillion (US$80 billion) in 2014, up 7% year on year. Particularly, IEEE 802.11ac products will see strong growth in 2014, triggering a 17% growth in WLAN products. As for cable communications products, surveillance products will see a 26% year on year growth in shipments.
